In media for the last week our teacher has informed us about his intentions to grade our work at its current stage, he said even though our work my not be the grade we want it to be at the moment, he said we can gain marks for time management. He said he will have graded them by new years, therefore, I will endeavor to get all the key tasks completed by then.

I got inspiration for my Digipak cover and my magazine advert from One Republic's album covers and album adverts, I tried to model these designs as they are styles that do not suggest which music style they are and creates a sense of mystery.

While thinkingbof ideas for a good digipak cover, I found this one that belongs to One Republic, this album cover has inspired me in terms of design and layout and colour for my own digipak.

So I have made big steps in completing my digipak, the final version. However, I am at a cross roads as to whether I should use my models on my digipak or have someone else on it. This is because they are only free during the christmas holidays. Which is also when I will film my music video.

Today my meda lesson is meant to be Theory instead of coursework. However, my theory teacher is absent today, so this lesson has now been made an inprompto  and I came prepared for a theory lesson, therefore, I did not bring my hardrive or laptop with me which has all my most recent coursework on it. So this lesson will be a very unproductive one for me in terms of coursework. In future to avoid situatinos like this I will transfer my work onto the media home drive at school so my work is also there.

I have been working on my digipak for the past couple of lessons and I am finding it quite difficult as every time I feel I'm getting close to my preferred design I get a comment that shows that my digipak isn't giving off the right impression. I need to work on it more but keep in mind my deadlines.

I realize that I will need a few choice pictures of the duo I plan to be in my music video for my Digipak and Magazine advert but the ONLY time they are free to film is during the Christmas holidays, this is because they're very difficult to get together due to their university timetable and the distance between my locations and their university.

Today in lesson our teacher told us how much time we have left until the interim dead line, he advised us on how many blog posts we should by then and what specific tasks need to be completed. In lesson today I got information from teacher in regards to my storyboard, he suggested instead of drawing one, that I should do a picture story board. This is because I would not stick to the drawn story board as my performers are regular performers and recording artists, therefore they would have their own artistic views for a video that would more suit their style.

Footage Equipment Choices

For taking pictures of the group for my digipak and magazine advertisement, I will be using a Canon Model 550D. This is because with the equipment in school I can attach remote flash lights to it and use a soft box  so the lighting will not be an issue when filming for the inside scenes.

When I record my music video I will be using the same Canon 550D camera and using a tripod to get steady shots. I feel this would be appropriate as then I can maintain the same quality images throughout for continuity purposes.

My post production equipment will be software's such as Adobe Photoshop CS3 for editing photographs and creating the magazine advertisement. However, for the footage I gathered for my music video I will be using a combination of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, Sony Vegas Pro 11 and Adobe After Effects CS3.

These advanced high tech programmes will aid me in creating the best product available.

My only issue will be the cross compatibility between all these programs.

Music Album Magazine Advert Inspiration

In lesson today my teacher let me cut out some pages from 'Q' Magazine, to see what music album adverts look like and what I should model mine off. This has given me some inspiration and in the short coming days I will experiment with photoshop and other similar editing software to recreate the effect that professional adverts look like.

Today I have been looking at music album adverts from magazine pages. I did this in order to get an idea of what to make mine look like. This also enabled me to decifer what is classed as 'cliche' and what is not, therefore I should not make any mistakes when creating my magazine advert.

I realized recently that my music video is not prop heavy, it will largely rely on the ability of the performers to make  it look authentic. This should not be too hard as my performers are both music artists and accomplished performers in their own right. Also, the effectiveness of my music video will depend on the quality and variety of shot angles I use and how good my video editing is. To ensure my skills are the best they can be, I have been practicing signature shot angles that are common in hip-hop music videos by using the high quality camera built into my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3).

Resource Update: Chest Mount

Today in media, my teacher suggested I use the chest mount that a previous media student built themselves, to give my music video a certain edge and to make it look more authentic. Also he suggested to use the fish eye lens which will create some cool effects.

Today our teacher posted an evaluation of our blogs so far telling us what we have and haven't done. This is indicated by a green 'y' or a red 'n'. I took a picture so I can refer back and see what I need to work on next. I have a lot of red 'n's, but this is because the majority of the blog posts I have done are not part of the syllabus.

Music Video Actors

To make sure my music video comes out as authentic as possible, I thought long and hard about the people I would have portray a 3-man band for my music video. Each member had to fit a certain person and look the part.

Lead Singer/Guitarist - George Blower

I have chosen George to be my lead singer because, he is/was part of a band and was the lead singer for them. Therefore, portraying a 'believable' lead singer will not take any practice runs. It will come and look natural. Also he plays guitar as a hobby, this would make the guitar playing more authentic. Lastly, he has the kind of appearance suited to the voice of the lead singer in 'Get Back' by Nine Lashes.

Drummer - Max Dowling

I chose Max as the drummer for similar reasons. He drums as a hobby and will give my video that much more of an authentic feel.

Bass Guitar - Matthew Thomas

Lastly, I chose Matthew to portray the lead base guitarist. While he does not play the instrument, he fits the appearance criteria linked to genre of music my video is related to. He also took drama as a A-level subject, therefore, I trust that he will be able to act out playing the guitar authentically and not harming my project.

Digi-pak Cover Effect (Practice)

The album cover at the top is an official one for a famous artist. The image at the bottom is my attempt at creating the comic book affect used in that album cover. This was merely practice and not the picture I intend to use for my digi-pak.

Location Selection 2: Urban Area

Today I have officially started my possible location shooting. I have uploaded two of the possible locations I plan to shoot my music video at. The pictures were taken at night, this is because some of the scenes of my music video will be shot at night.

Location Selection 1: Restaurant/Hybrid Restaurant

I have currently been scouting for a restaurant or hybrid restaurant (specialized restaurants) to use in one of the scenes of my music video. So far I have come up with two possible locations that I haven't yet decided from above are pictures of them. Also I am always looking out for new locations so these may change at a later date.

Today in lesson our teacher told us to start thinking and planning our digipak, therefore when I get home I will draft out ideas on rough paper, then a digital version and then go on to create the final product when I am happy with my initial ideas. I have already acquired inspiration from other digipak's from already famnous artists.

Mood Board

Instead of creating the basic mood board, I took it a step further and created a 'Tumblr' account. In case you are unaware of what Tumblr is, it is a a social network blogging site with a twist. The twist is that it is a picture blog. As it was originally a personal picture blog, some of the pictures have nothing to do with my music video, therefore I will temporarily link my personal Tumblr blog to my blog, and later on create a 'side blog' with only pictures that relate to my music video and the genre of it. Furthermore my Tumblr blog also has the song I am using for my music video as my background song. I believe this is a more fun way to display a mood board than the usual generic pictures with a bunch of text explaining each of photo. In other words, the pictures speak for themselves.

Today I am thinking about how I can develop my research into the target audience research of my music video. Personally, I feel as though the audience is the most important factor needed to be taken into accont when creating a media product. And in this case, with music, audience is very specific. I am going to create a video questionaire, asking lots of different people within my target audience, what they like, who they like, where they go in their spare time and so on. I feel this will give me more of an insight on how to create my music video in a way that'll be successful with its target audience.

So currently I have been using the blogger app on my Samsung Galaxy S3. This has been really handy as its allowed me to update my blog on the go and when I get inspiration. However I have just discovered as trying to post some videos I shot that the app will only allow me to post text and pictures. To solve this problem I have had to plug my phone into my computer and upload them using the normal site.

Electronic Signature

Today I needed to put my signature on a number of forms but instead of printing it off and scanning it back in to the computer I decided to write it on plain piece of paper and scan it in to Photoshop. I cropped it out so that I can now input it on to every form that I need and can print off many copies and even still edit the text if needs be without having to re-print and then re-scan again.

In order to get the best shots and angles and a clear sound in my short film I have enlisted the assistance of two other peers to work as crew for my short film. This will allow me to have two cameras filming at once getting a wide and effective variety of shots. Also It also allows me to film behind the scenes of the short film allowing me to demonstrate its production easily and very well. This week in media our teacher showed us all of the coursework he wants us to complete by the end of September. From this I relise that I am ahead of most of my class, I just haven't uploaded the work I've done onto my blog yet. Therefore I still have a lot of work, and have decided I will step up on my work ethic to complete the work in the next 12 days.
